Picture of Doodle - a
black cat

Welcome to Doodlecat, where we enjoy the pleasures of life (with a slight bias towards the outdoors). This page is regularly updated with news and views plus information about any additions or changes to the various parts of the site. It acts as Doodlecat’s Blog too, so the odd rant considered opinion may pop up from time to time.

I would love to be able to say that Doodlecat is all my own work, but it isn’t. Much of the outdoors content is courtesy of the splendid people who participate in the annual TGO Challenge (there is a section entirely devoted to this unique event) and many others.

To help in tracking down that elusive morsel on Doodlecat, the search facility under the title bar above is tailored to help you find it, either on this home page (Doodlecat's Blog) all the rest of the site (Main Site) or – if all else fails - the internet!

So have a rummage around the old cat basket and enjoy your time with us!

TGO Challenge Live!

The TGO Challenge is now in full swing. Of course many of us cannot participate this year, either because of other priorities, we didn't get selected, or we didn't apply. Oh, but we're curious, aren't we? Even if we're just thinking about giving it a go for the first time next year?

Thanks to the excellent chaps at Adventure Trading Post, suppliers of the Spot emergency locator,  a baker's dozen of this years contingent can be tracked live as they progress across the wilds of Scotland. Here is today's map.

Map showing 'Spot' users on the TGO Challenge 2012 May 13th

Biology students will notice the unfortunate resemblance to spermatozoa rushing to fertilise the Montrose egg, for that is where they will all end up - eventually. In the meantime it's quite good fun to follow their sometimes eccentric progress by opening the map here.

These are just a dozen or so out of three hundred. Good luck to all of you - hope you have a fantastic time!

G'day sport!
Your correspondents are languishing in the luxury of a 5* bunkhouse, 10km from Drum - supping tea whilst in bed.

Decadent it is.

But MUCH nicer than a soggy old tent in flooded Cannich.

Weather yesterday was truly awful, screamingly high winds on the tops with as much rain (if not more) than Stormy Monday.

Are we downhearted??? Nah!

Are we positive???? Yah!

Have we avoided being Denised? Well almost.

All is well here, but it be much wellerer (that's Timperley dialect) if you were along with us.

Love to Tini.

JJ, in the excellent company of Louise.....who doesn't complain (too much) when I sing.

Hi JJ

Good to know that you're going well. Tea in bed? VERY rufty tufty ;-)

Not heard from team Sloman as yet, but should you come across them, here's a little known secret. Alan is very fond of the work of Tammy Wynette. Should you encounter Alan at Callater Lodge and/or Tarfside, I think that you will find that he will be absolutely delighted if you could arrange a surprise rendering of "Stand by Your Man" with as many voices as you can muster. :-)

Have a great rest of the walk!

Another good map to follow the greater spotted challenger is this one. You can also follow their chatter on Twitter!

Well things are getting better - only waist-high snow over the Lairigh Ghru so perhaps a re-route will be in order tomorrow.
Aviemore has many Challengers, many looking to going via the Feshie in the morning.

Me? Well I'm off to bed, but not before I gen up on the words of 'Stand by your man'.

Hope the day goes well for you JJ - you'll deserve that beer in Braemar whichever route you take by the sound of things.

Glad you picked up on the "Stand by Your Man" - wish I could be there!

Fingers crossed Alan hasn't seen this. If any readers come across the the three amigos, mum's the word ;-D.
